Repeating Courses for a Better Grade

Students may repeat a course. Unless otherwise stated, courses may be repeated no more than twice after the initial attempt without the approval of the Vice President for Academic Affairs. When a course is repeated, the lower grade will be changed to an X, which carries no credit and has no effect on the grade point average. Only the best grade will be used in the GPA calculation. Because of federal financial aid regulations, a third attempt may not contribute to a student’s half-time/full-time status for financial aid eligibility.

Courses that teach different content each time (e.g., internships, music lessons) do not have their grades replaced. Each attempt earns a grade and credit that is used in the GPA calculation.
